Meme the Pain Away: Meme-Making & Talk with Anahita Neghabat
Meme Making & Tal: "Politics can be so oppressive and depressing. 😖💖Memes, on the other hand, are fun and empowering."- @ibiza_austrian_memes. As an accessible and humorous medium, memes offer the possibility of critically commenting on social conditions; they enable the exchange of individual and shared experiences; they give voice and offer coping strategies.
In the program artist and social anthropologist Anahita Neghabat explores memes as a political-activist tool and addresses why she understansds memes as a way to communicate knowledge about political developments and oppressive experiences of discrimination, to process them, to reflect on them, and to criticize them. In this programme, participants will create political memes with Anahita Neghabat - to draw creative and political power from their individual and shared experiences. Because memes are fun, they are a particularly good tool for artistically processing and critiquing oppressive and frightening experiences of discrimination and political developments. In the workshop, participants come together to translate their perspectives into memes and to have fun.
