About the International Film Competition
Every year, we search the world for filmmakers between the ages of 13 and 27. From all the films submitted, we curate a unique program that focuses entirely on the thoughts, stories and ideas of young adults. At the festival in October, school classes, young people and film fans are invited to marvel at the world-spanning and refreshing impressions in the cinema.

Since unfortunately not all submitted films can be shown at the festival, the competition program team had to make a selection. The eleven-member team viewed all the films submitted, made a preliminary selection and viewed and discussed them together again in the cinema. The selected 79 films will be shown in ten competition programs at the Programmkino Wels. At the indicated times, the programs can also be followed live on dorftv.at and okto.tv. In addition, the competition programs can be viewed on demand during the festival week in the KINO VOD CLUB.
Following the programs, Q&As with the filmmakers present in the cinema will take place. Pre-recorded film talks with the filmmakers will be shown online.

In 2022, young filmmakers from 75 different countries submitted around 800 films in the three age categories 13 - 17, 18 - 22 and 23 - 27. From animated films to feature films and documentaries to music videos and essays, the films feature a wide variety of approaches and strengths, both in terms of form and content. The films are digital and analog, some black and white, some lasting as little as 20 seconds but no more than 20 minutes. They are funny, creative, crazy, sensitive, searching and courageous. They address both the small things and the big questions, and present difficult issues in a respectful way.

Trophies
In addition to the prize money, the winners receive unique trophies, which are designed by annually changing artists on site during the festival week. In 2022, artist Magdalena Prieler will be responsible for the trophies.
Magdalena is particularly interested in everyday objects. For the YOUKI trophies, she wants to focus on those objects with which every day begins: the trophies mischievously enlarge some of the essential tools of the bathroom. This is intended to bring the hidden intimacy of personal hygiene into the public eye.
The trophy workshop is located directly in the festival center and Magdalena can be visited at work at any time.
